Tools

I work both traditionally and digitally, though most of my finished art tends to be traditional as I work fastest that way.

Digital Tools:

  • ipad/Procreate - Most of the time I only use this for sketches or lineart, and simply block out the color into separate layers if its going to be finished. Due to the color differences between my monitor and the ipad I don't generally like to finish things on it.
  • Photoshop CS5 - This is an ancient version of photoshop before they moved to the subscription model. These days I mostly use it to edit images I've scanned however I do still occasionally do a digital piece. I would like to learn how to use Clip Studio Paint but haven't had the time yet.
  • Scanner - Epson Perfection V30. Great scanner no notes
  • Wacom Intous Pro - Its one of the older ones with the buttons on the side. TBH I don't really like screen tablets except for the ipad, as my eyes are sentitive to electronic blue light and I don't like being blasted in the face.

Very often, I plan or draw things out digitally, print it out, and transfer it to a piece of paper, usually with a lightbox.

Traditional Tools:

  • Mechanical Pencils - A favorite being the Pencil Graphgear, a drafting pencil. I use these mostly for sketching as I am rather heavy handed.
  • Wooden Pencils - My current favorite wooden pencil is the Uni Mitsubishi Hi-Uni. I sketch with these but also use them when transferring art into a new paper; They don't dig into the paper as much as the mechanical pencils do so they are easier to erase.
  • Ink - I love to paint with ink and especially acrylic ink. The graphics made specifically for the site aesthetic were painted with Sennelier Abstract Carbon Black acrylic ink and Daler-Rowney Flame Orange acrylic ink. These inks are quite nice as they dry matte and stay matte even when layered a lot, unlike Dr Ph Martins ink.
  • Fineliners - For lining stuff. I have a large pile so its whatever I have in the size I need. (Sakura Microns, Copics, Faber-Castell..)
  • Faber-Castell Pitt Pens - These are india ink pens. You need ust the right paper to blend them but I enjoy them a lot. They are helpful when I am trying to touch up a piece.

Admittedly I experiment a lot, but those are the tools I use the most
